GUAIFENESIN WITH PSEUDOEPHEDRINE - ORAL CAPSULE, TABLET
(gweye-FEN-eh-sin WITH sue-doh-eff-ED-rin)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Deco-D, Duratuss, Maxifed, Sudal, Venbid, Zephrex
USES: Guaifenesin is an expectorant used to help clear mucous and congestion. Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant wihch helps relieve nasal congestion. This comibnation medication is used to treat symptoms associated with a cold, allergies or respiratory tract illness.
HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth. It should be swallowed whole.
Do not crush or chew the mediaction. If stomach upset occurs, this may be taken with food or milk. Take this medication as directed. Do not raise the dose or take it more often or longer than prescribed.
It is recommended to drink plenty of fluids (6-8 glasses a day) to help relieve congestion.
SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, stomach upset, loss of appetite, nervousness, dizziness, or headache may occur the first several days as your body adjsuts to the medication.
If these effects conitnue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: chest pain, a rapid haert rate, anxiety, fear, difficulty urinating (men only), difficulty sleeping. Because this medication may cause dizziness, use caution performing tasks requiring alertness and avoid consuming alcohol which can aggravate this effect.
If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: pre-existing heart disease, kideny disease, liver disease, lung disease, emphysema, high blood pressure, overactive thyroid, diabetes mellitus, glaucoma, difficulty urinating, an enlarged prostate, history of seizures. This drug should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and beneifts with your doctor. It is not known if this medication appears in breast milk; consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including: sleeping pills, sedatives, tranquilizers, muscle relaxants, medication for depression, medication for high blood pressure. Tell your doctor if you have taken any MAO inhibitors in the last two weeks: furazolidone, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine, linezolid. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control cetner or emergency room immediately.
Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, fast or irregular heartbeat, and seizures.
NOTES: Do not shrae this product with others.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usaul dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to ctach up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 dgerees C) away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom.
